Warning of fresh threat from al-Qaeda in Iraq

As the war in Syria escalates, the violent reverberations are being felt beyond its borders.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq - feeding off gains made by Sunni extremists in Syria - is waging an increasingly ferocious campaign of suicide attacks, car bombings and assassinations.

Dr Mowaffak al-Rubaie is Iraq's former National Security Advisor and the man who hanged Saddam Hussein.

He told the BBC's Quentin Sommerville that al-Qaeda in Iraq is back to full strength, and poses a threat to the region and the world.
