Syria threatens to retaliate after Israeli strike

Syria has threatened to retaliate after Israeli warplanes reportedly crossed over its border and launched an attack close to the capital Damascus.

President Assad's government said the target was a military facility but other reports said the Israeli jets bombed a convoy carrying weapons to Lebanon.

The episode has heightened fears that Syria's civil war is destabilising the wider region.
