Iranian actress stars in controversial film set in Afghanistan

In Atiq Rahimi's film The Patience Stone, which he adapted from his own prize-winning novel about an Afghan woman speaking her mind to her paralysed husband, the main character questions the virtues of virginity and honour.

Unable to find an Afghan actress to play the controversial role, the director turned to Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani - who has been praised by viewers and critics alike for her convincing portrayal of a woman finding her voice after 10 years of marriage.

Karen Zarindast reports.
