Kofi Annan calls for transitional government in Syria

The UN's envoy for Syria, Kofi Annan, has been giving details of an agreement reached at a summit of foreign ministers in Geneva.

He said Syria must make a fresh commitment to a sustained cessation of violence, which he said was ''gravely alarming''.

Kofi Annan laid out a number of demands, which included a transitional government to enable the Syrian people to live ''independently and democratically''.
