Syria violence rising before ceasefire

There's deadlock in Syria as opposition groups reject calls to give written guarantees to stop fighting.

The government is refusing to withdraw its forces until they do so.

Meanwhile, bombardment of civilian areas continues, ahead of Tuesday's withdrawal deadline brokered by peace envoy Kofi Annan.
