Attack threats loom over Middle East talks

George Mitchell, the American Middle East envoy, has described the talks in Washington between Israel and the Palestinians as constructive.

They are the first direct negotiations in nearly two years. But Palestinian militants have warned they will step up attacks against Israeli targets following the resumption of Middle East peace talks.

In Israel, right-wing activists have criticised the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, for describing the Palestinians as 'partners in peace'. Steve Kingstone reports from Washington.
