State breeds violence in Rio says director Jose Padilha

Director Jose Padilha is one of Brazil's most successful and controversial film makers - his movies often focus on violence and corruption in the favelas of Rio.

He told BBC HARDtalk why he believes responsibility for much of his country's problems with violence lies with the state, citing the mistreatment of homeless children combined with an under-resourced and badly managed police force as contributing factors.
