Mapuche protest turns violent in Chile

Around 700 members and supporters of Chile's indigenous Mapuche community, fierce opponents of Spanish conquerors 500 years ago, have marched in Santiago in an attempt to have their ancestral lands returned to them.

The protests became violent as police used water cannon to disperse the demonstrators.

Grainne Harrington reports.
