Brazil in 90 seconds: From price rises to protests

Protests in Brazil have grown and spread since a simple dispute over bus fare rises in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro prompted a police crackdown.

Since then disgruntled Brazilians have used the Confederations Cup football tournament as a backdrop for demonstrations tied to a whole raft of social grievances.

Complaints about poor public services, nepotism and corruption have seen many thousands take to the streets and prompted repeated clashes with police.

The BBC's Alastair Leithead explains how the protests took on a life of their own - in just 90 seconds.
