Irish president: 'Events of 1916 changed everything'

The 1916 Easter Rising was one of the key events in the history of Ireland.

Over 450 people were killed and thousands injured in the rebellion.

Speaking to the BBC, the Irish President Michael Higgins said "without 1916 and the events that surrounded it we would not have achieved our independence".
