Chechnya's battle against IS extremists

Close to 3,000 Russian citizens have now joined the ranks of the so-called Islamic State and the Russian government fears that battle-hardened extremists could eventually bring their fight back home.

Many IS recruits come from the mainly-Muslim North Caucasus region of Russia, including some 500 from Chechnya.

And as the group actively recruits there, religious leaders are now keeping a close eye on any hint of radicalisation.

Sarah Rainsford reports from Grozny.
