Pope Francis opens holy door at Vatican for Jubilee of Mercy

Pope Francis has opened the bronze holy door of St. Peter's Basilica for the first time in 15 years.

It formally ushers in his Jubilee of Mercy, a yearlong celebration.

Pope Francis embraced his predecessor, Pope Benedict, before he opened the door.

Tens of thousands of pilgrims had gathered at St Peter's in Rome to celebrate a mass with Pope Francis to mark the beginning of 12 months on the theme of mercy.
