Justice plea for Franco-era victims in Spain

The United Nations has urged Spain to scrap an amnesty law that pardons crimes committed during the dictatorship of Gen Francisco Franco, who died in 1975.

Hundreds of thousands of people disappeared during the Spanish civil war and the 36 years of nationalist rule that followed.

A team of UN experts has urged the Spanish government to help the many relatives of missing Franco-era victims, who want justice and information about the victims' fate.

Dozens of those relatives demonstrated in Madrid on 25 September 2013 to draw attention to the issue.
