£1m reward for information leading to capture of jewel thief

A reward of almost a million pounds, is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of jewels worth £88m, stolen from the French Riviera resort of Cannes.

The raid took place last month in the middle of the day from the Carlton Intercontinental Hotel which also featured in Alfred Hitchcock's film "To Catch a Thief" which portrayed a jewel thief operating in the French Riviera.

This, however is no film and authorities are hoping that the reward put up by insurer Lloyd will help recover the stolen gems.

Christian Fraser reports from France.
