Catholic Church: Italy's dwindling congregations

The Roman Catholic Church is getting ready for the start of the conclave which will elect the new pope.

The date will be set by the College of Cardinals and all but a few of its members have now arrived in Rome.

In Italy as across much of Europe, the Catholic Church is struggling with dwindling congregations and fewer young men joining the priesthood.

Allan Little travelled to the Assisi - the heartland of European Catholicism, to find out more about the challenges facing the Church.
