Eastern Europe gripped by extreme cold snap

Scores of people have died as snow and sub-zero temperatures spread across parts of eastern Europe.

Dozens of villages in Romania have been left without electricity and a state of emergency has been declared in Bulgaria.

Driving conditions in many parts of the region are treacherous, with some motorists accusing the authorities of not responding quickly enough.
