Restoration amateur ruins fresco

It was all done with the best of intentions, but a woman in her 80s has ruined a 19th Century fresco in her local church.

Ecce Homo (Behold the Man) by Elias Garcia Martinez has held pride of place in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church near Zaragoza for more than 100 years.

Parishioner Cecilia Gimenez thought the fresco was looking a little worse for wear and, to save the church time and money, decided to do the restoration work herself.
