Italy crisis: Mario Monti announced as new PM

Mario Monti has been announced as Italy's new interim prime minister, following the resignation of Silvio Berlusconi on Saturday.

The ex-EU commissioner was favourite to take the top job, and his main role will be to implement a set of austerity measures to tackle Italy's debt crisis.
