Uncertainty grips eurozone as Greek PM comes under pressure

Uncertainty is gripping the eurozone as the Greek prime minister appears ready to shelve the controversial referendum he announced just two days ago.

George Papandreou has come under enormous pressure at home and faced anger abroad.

The shockwaves caused by his original decision to let Greek voters decide on a bailout plan threatened more weeks of financial turmoil.

The issue has dominated the G20 summit in the French resort of Cannes where David Cameron has arrived.

From Athens, Mark Lowen reports.
