Footage shows Mount Etna spewing lava and ash

Sicily's Mount Etna spewed lava and sent clouds of ash into the air when it erupted in the early hours of Thursday.

The lava flow went mostly into uninhabited areas.

The airport in the nearby town of Catania was forced to close when its runway became covered in volcanic ash.
