New Zealand goldfish survive 134 days after earthquake

Two goldfish survived 134 days trapped in their tank in Christchurch's off-limits area after February's earthquake.

Shaggy and Daphne, named after characters from cartoon Scooby Doo, were in a large tank and had plenty of weeds to eat, but director of the business that kept the fish, Vicky Thornley, believes they may also have eaten the other fish in the tank.

Goldfish expert Bob Ward said that their survival was possible as fish can cope with a lack of food depending on the temperature of the water they are in.
