Fireworks as HMAS Adelaide scuttled off Australian coast
A decommissioned Australian navy frigate has been scuttled off the coast of New South Wales.
HMAS Adelaide was sunk near Avoca beach, as hundreds of onlookers enjoyed a fireworks display to mark the occasion.
The wreck will form the basis of an artificial reef that will generate millions of dollars in revenue for New South Wales state, a government official said.
The BBC's Phil Mercer said that the sinking was approved despite objections from environmentalists.
