Japan earthquake: Rooftop rescue in Kesennuma

A huge relief operation is under way after Friday's 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit north-eastern Japan.

The offshore earthquake triggered a tsunami which wreaked havoc on Japan's north-east coast, sweeping far inland and devastating a number of towns and villages.

Japanese television showed stranded residents in the city of Kesennuma being rescued from a rooftop after the area was engulfed by the tsunami.
