Japan New Year tuna sale sets record of nearly $400,000

A tuna has sold at auction in Tokyo for a record 32.49m yen - nearly $400,000 (£257,320).

The fish, a blue fin tuna used in the finest sushi, was bought by a Japanese-Chinese partnership which also won bidding for last year's prize fish.

The owner of the Hong Kong-based sushi chain, Ricky Cheng, said it was a "really good fish" but he did not expect to make any profit from dishses made with it.

Roland Buerk reports from Tokyo.
