Heavy rain begins to hit Southern China

Heavy rain has started to hit southern China as Typhoon Conson, which claimed at least 37 lives in the Philippines, approaches the country.

Torrential rains across a huge area of southern China have already killed around 400 people this year.

Central China is facing its worst floods since 1998 as rain continues to batter the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

Chinese state-run TV has broadcast images of soldiers rescuing villagers from houses and putting up sandbags to protect properties.
