Indian officials: Forest fires being brought under control

Indian officials say huge forest fires in the northern Himalayan state of Uttarakhand are gradually being brought under control.

A senior official in charge of the operation said the blazes had been doused in over 70% of the affected areas.

Indian air force helicopters have been deployed to spray water on the fires that have been ravaging pine forests and threatening two major tiger reserves.
