Time zone change will help trade, says Samoan PM

The small Pacific Islands of Samoa and Tokelau are going to miss out an entire day when they move across the international dateline.

When the clock strikes midnight local time as 29 December ends, Samoa and Tokelau will fast-forward to 31st December.

Samoa announced the decision in May in a bid to improve ties with its major trading partners Australia and New Zealand.

Samoan Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sailele Malielegaoi said the move would allow an extra day of trading and also remove confusion for tourists.
