The dark heart of Libya's people smuggling trade

One of the key departure points for many migrants heading to Europe is Libya, with the lack of a stable government making it an ideal base for people traffickers and smugglers.

Thousands of desperate people have paid large sums of money to be sent across the Mediterranean in unsafe boats.
