French-Beninese artist Mina Agossi discovered jazz singing and began recording in the early 1990s.

She is known for her modernist twist and usually performs as part of a trio with a double bass player and a drummer.

She recently appeared at the Madajazzcar festival in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

She explained to the BBC's Tim Healy how she started and the influence music from Niger and Mali has had on her style.
