'Have loads of children', Nigerians were told

Seven billion people and counting - that is the size of the world's population today. It has gone up a billion in just 13 years.

The impact on Africa is tangible as urban areas bear the brunt of the growth and concerns are growing over how to provide for everyone.

The United Nations Population Fund's annual report says birth rates remain high in most countries in Africa - bucking the trend elsewhere where women are choosing to have fewer children.

So what is the right number of children to have? Here are some views from staff at a maternity unit in Lagos.
