Bill Gates: 'US should pay more tax'

Bill Gates, chairman of the technology giant Microsoft, has told the BBC he would like to see the amount of money spent on international aid increased.

Speaking on BBC2's Newsnight, he told presenter Jeremy Paxman that he wanted to see farmers better educated and more money spent on health care in areas of poverty.

He went on to say that he would favour a higher rate of personal taxation in the US.

"I've paid more tax than any individual ever, and gladly so... I've paid over $6bn (£3.6bn) in taxes," he added.
