Japan declares Fukushima stable

Engineers have brought the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant to a "cold shutdown condition", nine months after the earthquake and tsunami, Japan has confirmed.

Speaking at a nuclear task-force meeting, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said, "We are now moving from trying to stabilise the nuclear reactors to decommissioning them".
