Police are investigating the theft of more than £16,000 worth of cattle in Carmarthenshire.
Thirteen uninsured cows and one calf were taken from a field on Bethlehem Road, Llangadog, sometime between last Wednesday and Thursday.
Farmer Teifion Williams said it was "a bitter blow" as his family had spent years building up the herd.
The Farmers' Union of Wales is urging farmers to be vigilant.
David Waters, FUW county executive officer in Carmarthen, said: "As the days get shorter this time of year, some may fancy their chances and steal livestock and farm machinery, which has devastating consequences for our farm businesses."
