Political will needed for better Gypsy facilities, says charity

Welsh ministers may have to force councils to provide better facilities for Gypsies and travellers because of a lack of progress, a charity has warned.

Gypsies and Travellers Wales has worked with Cardiff council and the city's traveller community since the early 1980's.

The warning came as one group in Newport was asked to move on after camping without permission.

Bethan Wyn Jones from the charity told BBC Wales Today that the Welsh Government could direct local councils to develop sites where a need has been identified.

The Welsh Government said the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 placed a duty on councils to meet accommodation needs.

Council leaders said they would develop "appropriate sites where possible".
