BBC Wales network TV 'no excuse' for local shortfall

Cardiff's role as a BBC centre of excellence for network drama is not an excuse for a lack of local programming for Wales, Deputy Culture Minister Ken Skates has said.

Ministers have previously said there was a "lamentable" lack of BBC Wales comedy and drama in English.

The BBC has said it was working with devolved governments to meet audience aspirations around the UK.

Mr Skates told the communities, equality and local government committee that the BBC had a "significant" budget and could find more money for programmes in English for Wales.
