Point of Ayr colliery project awarded £40,500 grant

A former miner was overcome when he learned that a colliery project in Flintshire had been awarded £40,500.

John Wiltshire was presented with the cheque from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will help preserve the legacy of the last deep coal mine in north Wales.

The Point of Ayr Then and Now project will invest the grant into a miners trail and circular walk using the Wales coast path between Ffynnongroyw and Talacre.

National Lottery player Vicky Peterson, 46, who presented the cheque to Mr Wiltshire, posed as a volunteer to find out more about the project as part of its Thank You Wales campaign.

It allows players to find out more about the schemes that benefit when they buy a ticket.
