St Davids announcement of Wales' first woman bishop

The decision to appoint Wales' first woman bishop was announced outside St Davids Cathedral on Wednesday.

Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, said it gave him "enormous pleasure" to confirm Canon Joanna Penberthy has been given the role.

An electoral college of 47 people from across Wales spent two days locked at the cathedral before coming to their decision.

Canon Penberthy, 56, who was appointed the cathedral's first woman canon in 2007, will take over the role from the retiring Wyn Evans.
