£1m lottery cash to transform old Gwynedd school

Volunteers have been celebrating winning £1m towards transforming a former school in Gwynedd into a new community hub.

The Big Lottery Fund cash is part of £3m awarded to three projects in Wales - including the now closed Ysgol Bronyfoel at y Fron in the Nantlle Valley.

The school, which closed in 2015 after 170 years, will be turned into an 18-bed bunkhouse, shop, cafe and community rooms.

Jim Embrey from the Canolfan Y Fron group set out why they wanted to win the award as they awaited the decision.
