'Huge challenges' to recruit and keep GPs in Wales

Trainee GPs are to be offered a £20,000 bonus to work in parts of Wales where it is proving hard to attract and keep family doctors.

The deal requires them to undertake a trainee placement and then work in the area for one year as part of a new Welsh Government campaign to tackle recruitment problems.

A one-off £2,000 payment will also be offered to help trainee GPs cover the cost of their final exams.

Swansea doctor Heidi Phillips said the profession faced "huge challenges".
