Crews 'digging away' to tackle Newport wood fire

A fire at a wood recycling centre in Newport's Alexandra Docks is expected to be completely extinguished by the weekend.

The smouldering wood chips have given off an acrid smell since the blaze broke out on 6 December.

Crews were called back to the scene again on Monday after wind caused the blaze to 'flare up' again.

Firefighters are dealing with 7,000-10,000 tonnes of wood, which is being stored there ready for export.

Paul Heaney spoke to firefighter Matt Jones.
