The perks of grotto work: 'You get to wear a costume'

Why work as Santa Claus, an elf or even a Christmas light untangler?

John Jones, 72, and John Kirkhouse, 76, are among the hundreds across Wales who personify the season of goodwill in red robes and tireless smiles as professional Father Christmases.

The shift Santas work with elves Amy Powell, 22, and Marie-Julie Cnydde, 17, at Llanelli's St Elli centre.

They described the perks, privileges and professional requirements of clocking-in at the grotto.
