Girl loses most of her pancreas to acne medicine

A teenager from Anglesey will spend the rest of her life taking medicines because of what she says are side effects from a commonly prescribed acne drug.

Elin Rowlands, 16, had to have most of her pancreas removed when she was taken ill after being given Roaccutane to clear her skin.

Drug company Roche said it cannot comment on how clinicians prescribed Roaccutane but it "recommends any prescription medicine is prescribed carefully".

Roger Pinney reports.
