Ian Paisley gave 'peace and stability' to Northern Ireland

Former Democratic Unionist Party leader Dr Ian Paisley took Northern Ireland from horror and evil into peace, a former minister has said.

Peter Hain, who was secretary of state for Northern Ireland from 2005-07, paid tribute to the politician, who has died aged 88.

The Labour MP for Neath said Dr Paisley sealed a deal with bitter enemies Sinn Fein to bring about stability.

Mr Hain said behind-the-scenes Dr Paisley was warm and "very good to get on with".
