Celebrating Doctor Who and Wales

It is the longest running science fiction drama in television history, and this weekend Doctor Who celebrates its 50th anniversary.

It will be marked with a special one-off show on Saturday evening - Day of the Doctor - bringing together former doctor David Tennant with current doctor Matt Smith, and John Hurt as the previously unknown 'War Doctor'.

The show is also being screened in cinemas in 3D.

Since the series returned to the BBC in 2005 - Wales has very much been the home for the programme.

BBC Wales' arts and media correspondent, Huw Thomas, examines just what that has meant.
