Life in Liverpool's Welsh Streets

For years, many people regarded Liverpool as the capital of north Wales - a reflection of the vast numbers of Welsh people who moved there to live and work.

Street names in the Dingle area, such as Powis, Gwydir and Rhiwlas, spelt out that Welsh connection.

This summer it seemed many of those now derelict streets would soon disappear as part of a £15m housing regeneration scheme.

But now UK Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has announced a planning inquiry before the scheme is allowed to proceed - to the anger of those who say the Welsh Streets have had their day.

BBC Radio Wales' Rob Thomas reports.
