Sharp drop in Welsh students applying for university

New figures show there has been a sharp drop in the number of students from Wales applying to go to university this September.

The overall figure is down 11.7% on the same time last year.

The data shows how many applications had been received by the university admissions service, Ucas, by mid-December.

The general deadline is still a few weeks away.

BBC Wales Today reporter Nicola Smith explained the figures to Kate Morgan.
