SNP celebrate historic Scottish Parliament victory

Alex Salmond's SNP are celebrating their landmark victory in Thursday's Scottish Parliamentary elections.

The Scottish nationalists took 69 of the 129 seats - the parliament's first working majority. Mr Salmond has called for greater economic powers in Holyrood, under the Scotland Bill, but said a referendum on independence would not take place in the first half of his new five-year term.

The leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Tavish Scott, has joined the Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray in resigning, following their parties' poor results in the poll.

James Cooke reports.
