Western Isles mull Sabbath leisure centre opening

New laws could see sports centres and leisure facilities in the Outer Hebrides forced to open on Sundays.

On 5 April, a "public sector equality duty" comes into force as part of the new Equality Act, which outlaws discrimination by public bodies on the grounds of religion, faith or belief.

The Sabbath is still strictly observed by many on the predominantly protestant islands of Lewis, Harris and North Uist. But some residents welcome the change in legislation.

James Cook reports from Stornoway.
