Mesh implant woman says life changed and is 'a nightmare'
A woman has described the effect of being fitted with a mesh implant as "a nightmare" that has left her with health problems and needing to use a wheelchair.
Gillian Watt had a procedure to treat bladder and kidney issues in January 2011.
Since then she has had several corrective surgeries to remove the mesh and says the experience: "took me to the darkest place I have ever been".
Hundreds of mesh implant operations have been performed in Scotland despite ministers calling for their suspension as early as 2014.
The Scottish government says it has made its position clear while health boards say they discuss the risks with patients before performing the operation.
