The Edinburgh trams inquiry is costing more than £3.7m

BBC Scotland has learned that the cost of the inquiry into the Edinburgh trams project is £3,708,000.

Then First Minister Alex Salmond established the probe to examine what went wrong with the project which was late, over budget and produced a shorter route than had been planned.

The Scottish government is funding the inquiry.
